MY NAME IS JESSE CODY

Before the 17,000 miles on the trail, there was a quiet turning point: picking up Bill Bryson’s A Walk in the Woods. That story became my map out of the dark, leading me to the Appalachian Trail to face severe depression and suicidal thoughts head-on. The wilderness provided the healing, the purpose, and the ultimate reason to live.

Now, as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Hike the Good Hike is evolving to pass that torch. We are expanding our mission into a dedicated storytelling platform and production house, using film, audio, and raw media to bring the healing power of nature's embrace to anyone still searching for their way out of the woods.

In the summer of 2021, I completed a 1,300-mile through-hike along the Pacific Crest Trail, during which I raised over $30,000 in donations for the Youth Mental Health Project in Dobbs Ferry, NY. This hike served as an audition for what HTGH is capable of achieving in the realm of mental health advocacy.

The support we’ve received has solidified our conviction that storytelling is the ultimate tool for shattering the isolation of mental health struggles. To scale this impact, Hike the Good Hike is partnering with major foundations, mental health innovators, and diverse organizations that see the critical value of nature-based wellness. We are no longer defined solely by the outdoor industry—our mission encompasses the entire spectrum of human health and resilience.

We are bringing these collaborations to the screen and the airwaves. Through independent film production, university and corporate keynote speaking, and the 2027 launch of our podcast, we are taking the raw reality of the trail and sending it far into the world.

Beyond our own media, we are building a living community. We are developing an interactive platform designed for members to connect directly with one another and share their own authentic journeys. By uniting media production with grassroots community storytelling, we are driving a national conversation that turns vulnerability into collective strength.
